First through fourth-grade students at Johnson Creek Elementary School were offered the opportunity to participate in the Kettle Moraine Reading Council’s Interpretive Reading Contest through a club during the school day. Twenty-seven students were coached weekly by Melissa Christian, Melissa Sweger, Wendie Poltrock, Brittanie Rageth, Stacy Miller, Christiana Childs, and Beth Kopplin. On Thursday, February 15th, students were locally judged by Tricia Wagner and CJ O’Neil. The following finalists were selected to compete at the district-level competition in Fort Atkinson on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024:
First grade, representative, Elvira Godinez and alternate Everett Ansay;
Second grade, representative, Zoe Olszewski and alternate Broderick Watts;
Third grade, representative, Olivia Poltrock and alternate Sasha Morris;
Fourth grade, representative, Mary Cahill and alternate Emma Clouse.
Congratulations to all the winners, and good work to all students! They all grew so much through our time together at Interpretive Reading Club and really polished their reading fluency!
